Animazione, Ratings: Kids, - Spagna, Gran Bretagna 2009. - Moviemax uscita venerdì 20 novembre 2009.
In un pianeta lontano dove regnano militari, igoranza sulle leggi del cosmo e anni '50, piomba un giorno un astronauta americano. Gli abitanti del Pianeta 51, terrorizzati da film di fantascienza incentrati sulla figura dell'invasore malvagio e diffidenti dei diversi reagiscono con terrore e ostilità. Solo uno di loro, costretto ad entrare in contatto con l'ospite inatteso, lo scoprirà innocuo e anche un po' fanfarone.
Produzione americana e competenze spagnole, Planet 51 è un curioso ibrido dalla testa a stelle e striscie e il corpo iberico. Se infatti la sceneggiatura viene da mamma Dreamworks la regia e tutte le maestranze vengono dalla Spagna che con questo film cerca di proporsi come nuovo polo d'eccellenza per l'animazione europea e discount per le case americane. Il risultato è un film che a scenari e umorismo americano alterna una fisicità europea e qualche gag diversa dal solito.
Il risultato è ineccepibile dal punto di vista tecnico. Personaggi che si muovono con grazia e dovizia di particolari, sfondi complessi, ambienti sofisticati e illuminazione di prim'ordine. Un po' più da ridire ci sarebbe invece sulla storia che, come spesso capita in casa Dreamworks, mette davanti gag nemmeno troppo divertenti alla ricerca di una propria originalità e cita film su film in maniera spudorata e senza nessun senso se non, ancora, quello comico.

Technology really has become completely integrated to our existence, and I think it is safe to say that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.
I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside... I just hope that as technology further advances, the possibility of transferring our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could see in my lifetime.
